I am a cancer patient at Mayo clinic. I live between MI and AZ, but do not own in the Phoenix area yet. I come down for treatment and meetings every 1-2 months when I am in MI for half the year. I ALWAYS stay at this hotel. It is clean, convenient with a hotel shuttle to the Scottsdale Campus (Scottsdale Campus then has a shuttle to Phoenix main campus), and lots of amenities for the price. Can't beat the value whether you are a patient at Mayo or not!

With that said, the best thing about this hotel is the service. This staff treats you like family, and that means more than anything if you are a patient or family member at the clinic. The whole staff is wonderful, but I want to recognize Karen for her heart (going the extra mile), her hard work (I see her moving around doing anything that needs to be done), and her above and beyond kindness and caring. I have stayed at the hotel alone at times, and she reminds me that I am not alone, because I have her and the rest of the staff with me. I would also like to recognize Lydia who is always ready to get me to and from my appointments on the shuttle. I know I can count on her, and she makes my day! Thank you to the whole staff for making a difficult situation a little easier and my world a little brighter.

My wife and I have stayed here several times in the past and our visit this trip has been very disappointing! The restaurant is closed. Not just for Thanksgiving, but for the entire time of our 5 night stay. We enjoyed coffee from the restaurant in the morning before we take our walk, but since the restaurant is closed the only option is to purchase coffee out of a thermos at the front desk for $3.50 a cup. The room was clean and redecorated, but the TV frequently lost its signal - frustrating! Also the tile area in the bathroom is very sticky! Is it just poor housekeeping or what? The only reason we stay here is because our son lives close to this property, but next trip we will gladly drive further for better accommodations. Front desk staff was either rude or apathetic. Pick your shift. Maid service nonexistent.

You would think a hotel of this caliber would be able to afford better than a single ply gas station toilet paper. And wouldn't have to charge $3.25 for a cup of crap coffee. They didn't serve the "free" breakfast Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Probably because those are the days they would have the most guests to serve. Otherwise, it's a pretty nice property.

Disabled vet with ALS. Front desk rude saying "everyone here is terminal". Booked a king bed with walk in shower 3months ago. They did not have the reservation and had to move to 3 different rooms and ended up with 2 double beds, thankfully with disabled shower. Called customer service, and all I get is "I'm sorry to hear that".

The newly remodeled rooms have the bathroom door hitting the toilet. You have to close the door slightly to get to the toilet. The shower sprays water on the floor. There is no free breakfast you have to purchase Starbucks or snacks they sale. There is coffee, a microwave and a mini fridge

As a patient at the Mayo Clinic, I routinely stay at the Marriott Desert View in the Mayo Phoenix parking lot. After someone tried to saw the catalytic converter off my car the night before my surgery, then finding out the Marriott Desert View at Mayo Phoenix doesn't have any cameras and lastly, the handicap accessible bathrooms were always filthy, I decided to stay elsewhere for this visit to Mayo. Mayo patients on reddit suggested Sonesta next to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale.

Well, this hotel is lovely. They've done a recent rehab of the hotel, so there are some issues related to that, but nothing earth shattering. As a patient, I was most concerned about whether or not the rooms were clean. My room was clean, though my slippers turned black on the bottom after walking on the tile floor. They obviously hadn't mopped the floor in a very long time. That said, the room snd bathroom overall were clean and comfortable. I loved that I could ride my scooter to Mayo for breakfast and ride on their nature trails. It was wonderfully quiet and very peaceful.

The hotel manager Jamar was very nice and so accommodatng. He was wonderful along with Luke, the facilities manager. These are very kind people. The ladies at the front desk were always smiling and greeted me every time I went by. Karen came up front one time and introduced herself wishing me a nice stay. All the ladies at the front desk were affable, patient and very kind-hearted.

Now, for the reason I won't stay here again. After my surgery, I was on heavy pain medication and needed to sleep for the duration of my stay before driving back home to CA. Despite my "Do Not Disturb" sign hanging on the door, the cleaning people kept knocking on my door. While I had the interior lock on, they knocked, knocked and knocked and then tried to open my door banging it against the interior lock. Of course, every day they did this, they woke me up. Then, as I was checking out, moving my personal items to my van, I went back to the room to grab the last few items. There was a cleaning woman just leaving my room. There was no cleaning cart outside and none of the towels had been changed, so what was she doing in my room with my medications and my laptop?

The staff told me that the cleaning people are supposed to enter the rooms every three days to make sure the guests aren't trashing the room and to change towels and sheets. I told her that as an elderly Mayo Clinic patient with difficulty walking, I couldn't believe they were concerned about me trashing my room. In all my travels, this policy was a new one on me. Anyway, if that was true, why didn't that cleaning lady change my sheets and towels? They told me their cleaning people won't take any of my personal property. I let them know that that wasn't good enough. I have to return to Mayo for December, January and February. Unfortunately, I won't be staying at Sonesta.

The location is very good if you're at Mayo for medical appointments. It's walking distance (5 mins). The rooms are pretty standard for a three star hotel.

Service here is very poor. When we tried to check in, we waited around 15 mins for one of two employees to staff the front desk. The following day, we talked to the guy who checked us in to see whether we could add a second room. He told us they were sold out. 5 mins later, my wife booked a room online (several options were available). When we got our key and asked the guy about it, he told us he thought it was too expensive (around $125)....we obviously didn't think so.

Our third day, we called to ask for our room to be cleaned. Apparently, you have to ask. They didn't clean our room. When I asked housekeeping if we could get fresh towels, she told me I could go ask the front desk.
